Pila Honda experience
Positive Elevation Gain: 87 m
Starting Altitude: 1,678 meters
Minimum Elevation: 975 meters
Elevation Difference: 712 meters
Experience description
Our experience begins at the gas station in the Linderos sector of Mesa de los Santos. There, we will pick up our bikes after arriving by car at said station.

We start with our descent. Along the route, we will encounter 7 short uphill sections, with a total accumulated elevation gain of 87 meters, which shouldn't pose a major effort.

This is the total descent we will face, so wear your gloves and stay focused on the path!

Our first stop will be at the Salto de Velosa viewpoint, where we can appreciate the immensity of the canyon and the various paths that can be found there.

To the left, we'll see immense pineapple crop valleys as we continue our descent.

The descent will give us an unparalleled view; to the right, different trails in this area and various crops to the left, as well as some artificial bodies of water used to store water and aid in irrigating the crops.

A few minutes after our first stop, we'll pass by another viewpoint, which allows us to overlook the Barrigones Valley.

What does this viewpoint refer to?
The Barrigona Ceibas (Pseudobombax septenatum),
The Barrigona Ceiba is an endemic species that is endangered, so many efforts are being made to protect them and plant more of them throughout the canyon, so if you see one, give it a hug and show your respect for this beautiful species.

After this, we'll continue our journey. We are now halfway through the descent and here you'll find more technical sections, so remember the following:
-
Never let go of the bike's handlebars, especially not to take photos. If you want a photo, our guide can help you.
-
Always keep both feet on the bike pedals.
-
Brake gradually and in advance. Remember that the left brake is the front one, which gives you more braking power, but you should use it gradually. Do not brake suddenly. The rear brake may make you feel like you're slipping a bit, so always brake and stay on the bike seat.
-
If you want to drink water or hydrate, stop. We don't want you to have an accident just to save a few seconds.
In the last part of our journey, we will find tobacco plantations, and we can get a close look at the workplaces for them, known as "Caney".

Passing through these places, we can say that we are about to reach the end of our adventure. In the background, we'll see the different colors of the towering walls of the Chicamocha Canyon, one of the most beautiful canyons on the planet.

That said, we'll take the last steep track, which is quite inclined, and we'll reach the end of the route. There, we'll stop for a while to enjoy the view and a beautiful natural pool.

After a well-deserved dip, we will return by the same route in a car, as the temperatures in the canyon are not recommended for biking after 11 AM.
Please note that depending on the season, the natural pool may have low water levels.
